10 D.I.Y Beauty Tips – #3 PORE STRIPS

Pore strips are an absolute must for summery beautiful skin. If you tend to have blackheads, these are great for stripping those oils and dirt away and leaving your face looking much more clear and lovely. The best part about these strips? They are made with just 2 ingredients and 2 really cheap ingredients at that. You need a tablespoon of unflavored gelatin and milk. You can use any type of milk that you want, as long as it’s milk. That’s it. You just combine these two ingredients, apply to your face and let dry. Once it’s dry you can peel it off (think glue on your hands when you were younger) and the blackheads and pore cloggers will come with it.

Pore Strips Ingredients:

1 Tablespoon unflavored gelatin
1 1/2- 2 Tablespoons Milk {any kind}

PROCEDURE
1.Measure 1 Tablespoon of unflavored gelatin into a disposable container {if you put say, green jell-o on your face, there might be trouble}
2.Add 1-2 Tablespoons of milk into the gelatin
3.Until it looks wet chunky glue
4.Mix it up, and be quick about it, until you get a chunky consistency. Add more milk if you’re uncomfortable with the amount of chunk.
5.Microwave the gelatin for about 10-15 seconds. It will get creamier in the microwave. Stir that around and start applying it IMMEDIATELY to your face. This stuff hardens up fast so you’ve got to act fast.

APPLICATION
1. Wash your face before you apply

2. You can put it wherever your little heart desires. You need to act fast though, because this stuff turns to gelatin quickly. I know I’ve said that three times already, but I really mean it.
3.Let it dry for about 15+ minutes. I waited longer, but you’ll know it’s time when you can’t talk for fear of breaking something.
4.Grab whatever you can and start peeling. This is the gross/fun part.

10 D.I.Y Beauty Tips – #2 BERRY LIP STAIN

20140824-004308.jpg

This DIY summer beauty treatment provides instant results as well as long lasting ones. It uses raspberries, pomegranate seeds, olive oil and blackberries to give you a luscious lip color for summer and one that will work to moisturize and soften your lips as you wear it. You just mix the ingredients together and then store in a small jar or other container. Apply to your lips with your fingers or a Q-Tip. You can keep the lip stain in the fridge for about a week and you can make different colors by using different berries.

INGREDIENTS:
•3 Blackberries (for their bright berry color)
•1 Raspberry (for its feminine pink color)
•3 Pomegranate Seeds (for their vibrant red color)
•1/2 teaspoon edible oil (I used Extra Virgin Olive Oil)
•a small Bowl + Spoon (or mortar + pestle if you have them)
•Fork or Sifter to drain
•small 5-gram Pot/Jar with screw top from any craft store

STEP 1: Mash the blackberries and raspberry in the bowl thoroughly with the back of your spoon.
STEP 2: Add the pomegranate juice into the mixture by individually squeezing them between your thumb and index fingers over the bowl.
STEP 3: Pour the olive oil into the bowl and stir everything together with your spoon.
STEP 4: Finish by draining the liquid from the mixture into your small portable jar.
For application, use your fingers, a lip brush or a Q-tip. It’ll only be good for a few days so refrigerate it for longevity. Have fun with it and even try different fruits (acai berries, cherries, etc)! You can play with the ratios of each fruit to customize your desired shade but you’ll get the most color payoff from the blackberries.

10 D.I.Y Beauty Tips – #1 EDIBLE MUD MASK

1. HOW TO MAKE EDIBLE MUD MASK

Why all this ingredients you ask well…

GREEK YOGURT contains lactic acid, which exfoliates and smooths your skin. It loosens dead skin cells, helps clear out pores and can be used to fight blemishes.
HONEY is beneficial for all skin types because it helps the skin retain both elasticity and moisture. Because of this, honey is especially great for dry skin.
COCOA is rich in antioxidants such as iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium, to name a few. It rejuvenates the skin, leaving it soft and glowing!
LEMON JUICE contains Vitamin C and Vitamin B. The citric acid in lemon juice exfoliates the skin, leaving it feeling smooth. Lemon juice can be applied to reduce oiliness, and it can also help diminish the appearance of scars and age spots. Avoid lots of sun exposure when applying lemon juice to the skin, and only use a little.
BUTTERMILK is a natural pro-biotic and contains lactic acid, like Greek yogurt. It can be used to soften, brighten, tighten, and exfoliate the skin.
BANANA functions as a face mask by itself! Applying mashed banana to one’s face leaves it feeling softer and moisturized. Bananas are rich in potassium and can be used to help heal blemishes when applied directly to the skin.

THE RECIPE
This recipe makes enough for 3-5 face masks:
2-3 Tablespoons Greek yogurt
1 tsp. cocoa powder
1 tsp. buttermilk
¼-1/2 of a banana, mashed
1 tsp. honey
1 tsp. lemon juice

Mix well in a blender or food processor. Mask should be thick enough such that it does not run down your face. Always test the mask on a small portion of the skin to test for allergic reactions. The skin on your face is sensitive, so always be careful smearing anything on it! If allergy-free, apply a layer of the mask to your face and allow it to sit for 20-30 minutes. Wash off mask with cool water, followed by a splash of cold water to close your pores.

****If you have dry or damaged skin, reduce or eliminate lemon juice and instead add an equivalent amount of honey. If you have particularly oily skin, use a little more lemon juice and a little less honey. My skin is some combination of the two, so I used equal amounts of both.****

Female Soldier Beats Bus Conductor to Coma in Lagos

A female soldier in the Nigerian army yesterday beat a conductor to coma over change at Iyana Isashi, along Lagos- Badagry expressway in Lagos State.

LeadershipNg reports that the soldier, who was in mufti, had boarded the mini- bus at Mile 2 and was going to Agbara area of Ogun State before the incident occurred. An argument which degenerated into a fight began when the soldier who allegedly gave the conductor N500 demanded for her change and the conductor said he had given her the money.

Although some passengers in the vehicle supported the woman, asserting that the conductor did not give her any change, all efforts made by the passengers to make the conductor do so proved abortive.
One of the passengers, Ikechukwu Obi told LEADERSHIP Weekend that the woman even identified herself as a soldier but the stubborn conductor did not want to listen.

Obi said when the woman became angry and ordered the driver to park, they knew that trouble was brewing. He said the woman grabbed the conductor by his collar and the conductor threatened to beat her. He said his utterances angered the soldier who dragged him down from the vehicle and gave him the beating of his life.

Something bigger than ebola – SINGLE BABY MAMAS BY AliBaba

20140824-002350.jpg

Foremost comedian, Alibaba has opined that there is an epidemic than is worse than Ebola.
In a piece titled Singleton, comedian Alibaba expressed his thoughts on the challenges single mothers in Nigeria face and how they can overcome these challenges.
Every now and then, I meet and get messages, from ladies, who either lost their jobs, widowed, pregnant and no job, the guy who impregnated them absconded, or is around but doesn’t give a hoot, or working but can’t meet the financial demands of raising kids on their own, or the guy agreed to having the babies and to support with their upkeep… But things happened and he couldn’t come through with the promised support.
Single mothers are increasing in numbers consequent on one or two of the reasons mentioned above. And this always makes me ask, is it not possible to avoid being caught up in some of these tough situations? I know its impossible to know if you will be a widow and left with 2 or 3 kids to raise by yourself, as a mother. But when it happens, what is the solution?

Some ladies just want to have kids, because they attended a birthday party and they saw Kemi with her 2 lovely kids. They also know Kemi has no visible source of income. Wake up!!!!! Kemi has sources of income. Ruff n Tumble DOESNT dash kids clothes weekly… To be honest, you don’t want to know what she does to make those kids look desirable enough to make you want to have yours. Maybe Kemi has a job. Maybe she has a rich husband. Or maybe she has a loaded boyfriend. Saved up wealth. She could be the “saving grace” of a guy who has been looking for a child. She may have rich parents. She could be a surrogate mum. Who bore the kids and is caring for the kids for the true parents…. Maybe, just maybe…

But, hey, nobody can stop you from wanting to have your own child or children. You ought to. And if they don’t come naturally, adopt. There is no issue with that. Only problem is, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO PREPARE YOU FOR THE CHILD OR CHILDREN YOU PLAN TO BRING INTO THE WORLD? What are your plans towards taking care of them as they grow… Knowing that it cost more to bring a child up now than it did when our parents had us. That is not to say it was any easy on our parents. But hey, kids’ fees these days for a single school term, is a total of alllllllllllllll our primary up to university fees, plus allowances.

So lets say your bobo agrees to you getting pregnant. And you got pregnant. And he bails on you. What will you do? Lets even suppose you have a job. What will you do when you resume after your maternity leave… Good Nannies cost a lot. Bad nannies even cost more. Minimum subscription for a nanny now is about 25k… That DOESNT include her upkeep and consumables… Abi she no go dey chop for the house?

Okay… Before you guys begin to say WHATS ali baba’s own sef… Let me just say, I get whatsapp, twitter, Facebook and text messages from single ladies who are pregnant or have kids, but do not know what to do to take care of themselves, not to mention the kid or kids they have… Because of some of the reasons I mentioned in my first paragraph. I have helped when I could and advised when it’s advice they want. But, with the access and opportunities social media has opened up, these request for assistance based on the challenges of raising kids by single mothers, have become a regular feature in my inbox, DM, whatsapp and even one on one.

So I ask again, what can single ladies do, that will prepare them for when the kids come and there is no bobo, sugar daddy, father, husband or the equivalent… Or do to support what she earns even when there is such a person who is a significant other?

DONT get me wrong o… There are ladies who can hold their own and even still put the guy who they are with on a monthly allowance. They are not “among of” what I am about here. So zip it.
I know someone will think I have nothing to do, that’s why I am writing this… But trust me. There is an epidemic out there. It’s not EBOLA but single ladies are going through this daily. And it’s how to be a single mum and still hold your head high in the face of school fees, house rent, parental demands, sibling responsibilities, looking good, career pursuit, peace of mind, remain sexy and responsible,…

You may call me whatever… But soon you will be wondering why abandoned children are flooding orphanage homes
